House of Refuge Star Trails
The House of Refuge in Stuart, FL.
Standing on the Southern end of the House of Refuge, I wanted to get star trails of the North Star, but alas, Mother Nature had other plans, sweeping in clouds just as I started. I was able to salvage only 45 minutes worth of shooting resulting in this image.
This is one of my absolute favorite places to go on Florida's Atlantic coast. The rocky coastline is utterly dramatic, unlike anything else you will find along the sandy beaches of Florida.
It was built in 1876 to help stranded and shipwrecked sailors. In 1915 it became a US Coast Guard Station, carrying on its life saving traditions. Today, it is the oldest surviving building in Martin County and is an active museum providing a look back to Hutchinson Island life dating back from 2000 BC.
